Colton Bates

Prior to pursuing his MBA, Colton graduated from BYU with a BS in Chemical Engineering and worked as a process engineer for Valero Energy. After 3 years as an engineer, he wanted to learn more about business and moved to strategy consulting firm Cicero Group, where his work included in-depth customer research, pricing strategy, commercial due diligence, and post-merger integration.
During his MBA, Colton found he was most interested in the intersection of strategy and finance, and interned in investment banking with J.P. Morgan. During his summer, his work focused on M&A, IPO, and private capital advisory. Colton will be returning to J.P. Morgan as an Associate full-time after graduation.
Colton’s interests include spending time with his wife and child, and doing things he’s not very good at like running (don’t ask for his mile time) and golfing (don’t ask for his handicap).
